Two Besties, Two Cities, Two Bodies, So Much Love

Posted on December 26 2017

Jane and Emma are two besties who share the Instagram handle and blog 'A Tale Of Two City’s' and one quick look at their feed shows them to be two vibrant individuals with a lot of love shared between them!

We were really thrilled when they decided to get behind our #bodyharmoni campaign this summer and share their favourite feature/body part from their individual perspective and we were even more excited when they took the time to answer some questions for us about loving yourself.

We hope you’re inspired by what these two beautiful young women have to say. We were!

HK: What’s your best advice for learning to love and accept yourself?

Our best advice would be to surround yourself with people that are a positive influence on you and your mental wellbeing. These will be the people that pick you up and build your self-confidence in your time of need. We also like to take a moment each night to remind ourselves what we're thankful for, which includes being thankful for the body we have been given. Our mantra really is that everyone is unique and amazing. We definitely have days where we doubt ourselves or don’t love physical aspects of ourselves but at the end of the day we wouldn’t like to be the mirror image of somebody else. Being unique is what makes you who you are.

HK: What does self-acceptance mean to you?

Self-acceptance to us is accepting yourself with all your flaws and loving yourself for it. We don’t know if it’s an age thing, but we have come to realise that you can’t be perfect, and you should never want to be, no one is perfect! We can’t change everything about ourselves that we don’t like but we can accept our flaws and remind ourselves that they make you who you are. You may not know, but these “flaws” could be things that other people love about you. For example me (Jane), I have quite a loud laugh, which at times I hate, and try to muffle, whereas most of my friends and family love it and say it is super infectious and makes them smile.

HK: What are some of your favourite things to do to make you feel good about yourself?

We love a good pamper session, getting our nails done or even staying in and doing it ourselves. Spending time with our friends and family also makes us feel good about ourselves. Surround yourself with those who love you for you!

HK: How do you combat negative thoughts about yourself?

For us it really comes down to a healthy, positive mindset and to be thankful for what we do have rather than getting caught up about the things that we don't have.  We all have those bad days where things overwhelm you, but we just try and brush ourselves off and do something positive.

HK: What would you say to someone who may be scrolling through their Instagram right now and suffering from feelings of inadequacy?

Always remember that on Instagram people only show you what they want you to see. They might be holding themselves a certain way for a photo or might just be putting up happy pictures from week’s prior. You never really know what is truly going on in their lives, so never compare yourself to others.
